The Melrose Park Public Library Card is available for free to residents of Melrose Park’s 60160 zipcode. The card allows you to checkout materials from SWAN libraries, access Internet computers in the library and use subscription databases.

Patron registration process:
- Patrons will receive immediate confirmation during the registration process indicating successful registration, including their temporary barcode and how to reset their PIN.
- They will also receive a generic SWAN-generated confirmation email containing their barcode and reiterating what they can do with the card.
- Upon registration, patrons will be granted full access to your library’s digital resources including e-books and databases.
- Registrations are restricted to addresses within your library’s service area zip codes.
- During the COVID-19 quarantine:
- these cards are valid for 90-days (requiring library verification for further extension).
- these cards cannot place holds on physical materials or checkout physical materials without being upgraded to a full access card by library staff.
Log in to check your account, renew items, place/cancel holds, pay fines online, modify your email or PIN. If you don’t know your PIN, you can click ‘Forgot PIN’ and get it emailed to you. You may also reset your PIN in person at the Circulation Desk.

Who is eligible for a Melrose Park Library card?
The library issues cards to individuals who reside within the Village of Melrose Park with a zip code of 60160. If you have a zip code of 60164, you must go to the Northlake Public Library to receive a Library card.
What do I need to get a Melrose Park Library Card?
Verification of the person’s identity and current address must be presented so that staff may check for accuracy, and currency of eligibility with two forms of identification both forms need to have your name, current Melrose Park address and a 60160 zip code. One of the two IDs must be a valid picture ID, either a government issued Illinois State ID or a government issued Illinois Driver’s license with the current Melrose Park address. The second ID must have your name, current address and the 60160 zip code. One of the following may be used for the second form of ID: utility bill, voter registration, a bank statement and /or a property tax bill. This second form of ID must also have your name, current Melrose Park address and the Melrose Park 60160 zip code. A parent or legal guardian must accompany persons from the ages of 5-17. The parent or legal guardian must present proper ID in order to get the library card. TVDL (Temporary Visitor Driver’s License) is not a valid ID.
Digital Photo and a digital Signature?
A digital Photo and a digital Signature are required at the time of receiving a Melrose Park library card.
My child would like a Melrose Park Library card, what do I do?
Your child must be 5 years of age. A parent must come in with Identification the same as they would if they themselves were applying for a card. A parent’s signature is required for children under the age of 18. Parents or guardians are responsible for the materials checked out on their children’s card. A parent or legal guardian must accompany persons from the ages of 5-17. The parent or legal guardian must present proper ID in order to get the library card.
I have a card from another library, may I use it?
Yes to checkout material, your card will be honored if your library is a member of the RAILSystem. If your home library is in another system, ask your home library if they participate in the reciprocal borrowing inter-system agreement.
I have a Chicago library card, may I use it?
You will have to apply for a RAILSystem card. To do so, come in and bring with you 2 pieces of ID with your current address and your Chicago library card — or apply at your home library.
I lost my card, what do I do?
The fee for a replacement card is $3.00 (55+ no charge), and for your protection you must bring at least one piece of ID with your name and address on it. Library cards that are lost or stolen should be reported immediately so that a stop can be put on the card. The patron is responsible for all materials borrowed on his/her card until the card is reported lost or missing. If your card is expired just bring the card in with one piece of ID and we will renew it free of charge.
If you lend your card to a friend, relative or co-worker you are responsible for all materials borrowed on your card. If you move, please notify us. If you move out of town you must turn in your library card to your new library or to us.
Issuing Library cards prior to closing
The library will issue a library card immediately upon meeting the requirements. The library will not accept new/updated card registration 30 minutes prior to closing for the day.
